His actions caused the rest of Eastern Europe to renounce communism.
He defied the Polish Communists for 10 years until they fell.
He was very charismatic and held the Solidarity party together.
He won a Nobel prize.
During his presidency, he oversaw the privatization of Polish industry. People Magazine selected him among the 25 most intriguing for 1980 and 1981. Time Magazine named him Man of the Year in 1981. Time Magazine also selected him one of the 100 most important people of the twentieth century.
