The Resume

    (April 9, 1895-January 30, 1976)
    Born in Navasota, Texas
Birth name was Beau de Glen Lipscomb
    Blues singer and guitarist
'Discovered' during the 1960s folk revival
    Recorded the albums 'Texas Songster' (1960), 'Trouble in Mind' (1961), 'Texas Songster Vol. 2' (1964), 'Vol. 3: Live' (1965), Vol. 4' (1967), 'Vol. 5' (1969), and 'Vol. 6' (1974)
Subject of the documentary film 'A Well-Spent Life' (1970)

Why he might be annoying:

He could have come to public notice four decades earlier, but he turned down an invitation to tour with country legend Jimmie Rodgers (1922).
He was discovered in 1960 only because Lightnin' Hopkins, the performer folklorists Chris Strachwitz and Mack McCormick had planned to record, had left for California.
He did not show much imagination in titling his albums.
One of his few indulgences after his recording career took off was having the image of a guitar stamped in gold inside his dentures.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had to leave school in the third grade and work in the fields alongside his mother after his father left home.
He was married to Eleanora Lipscomb for 62 years.
Chris Strachwitz was so impressed with him that he formed Arhoolie Records to record Lipscomb.
The first time he left Texas was to perform at the inaugural Monterey Folk Festival (1963).
Bob Dylan traveled to Navasota to play with Lipscomb at his house.
