The Resume

    (April 20, 1826-October 12, 1887)
Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was Dinah Maria Mulock
    English novelist and poet
Best known works are 'John Halifax, Gentleman' (1856) and 'The Little Lame Prince (1874)
Other works include ‘Cola Monti’ (1849), ‘ The Ogilvies’ (1849), ‘Olive’ (1850), ‘The Head of the Family’ (1851), ‘Alice Learmont’ (1852), ‘Angela’s Husband’ (1853), ‘A Life for a Life’ (1859), ‘Mistress and Maid’ (1863) and ‘Christian's Mistake’ (1865)

Why she might be annoying:

She wrote fairy tales, but they aren’t as well remembered as The Brothers Grimm’s or Charles Perrault’s.
She married a working partner of Alexander Macmillan of the famed Macmillan & Company, basically guaranteeing her written works would get published.
She was very critical of Benjamin Heath Malkin in her writings, and blamed him for the death of his son, child prodigy Thomas Malkin, who died at the age of seven.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her books often focused on the English middle class.
Her father was minister of a small independent nonconformist congregation.
She used her recollections of East Dorset where she grew up for her novels.
She died of a heart attack while preparing for her adopted daughter’s wedding.
Her last words were allegedly: ‘Oh, if I could live four weeks longer! but no matter, no matter!’
Her final book, ‘An Unknown Country,’ was published posthumously the year of his death.
    L. Frank Baum disliked ‘The Little Lame Prince,’ writing: ‘Doubtless many crippled children have derived a degree of comfort from the adventures of the little lame prince and his magic cloak; but a normal child should not be harassed with pitiful subjects, and even the maimed ones prefer to idolize the well and strong’ (totally not ableism or anything!).
