Auto Racer

The Resume

    (May 20, 1971- )
Drove the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet
    NASCAR Sprint Series Champion (2002, 2005, 2011)
Won Indy Racing League Championship (1997)
Won United States Auto Club Triple Crown (1995)
Won United States Auto Club National Midget Championship (1994)

Why he might be annoying:

He hawked his merchandise on QVC.
With four laps to go at Daytona, he dipped below the yellow line and was black-flagged. Stewart refused to pull onto pit lane and serve the penalty. After the race when NASCAR wouldn't reverse the penalty, Stewart had to be physically restrained from attacking Winston Cup series director, Gary Nelson. When asked for comment afterward, he slapped a tape recorder out of a reporter's hand and kicked it under a truck. NASCAR fined him $10,000 and put him on probation for the rest of the season (July 2001).
After a disappointing 12th place finish at the 2002 Brickyard 400, he punched a free-lance photographer. NASCAR fined him $10,000 and placed him on probation for the rest of the year. His sponsor, Home Depot, fined him an additional $50,000. Stewart then entered anger management counseling.
He was accused of assaulting a female fan at the 2002 Bristol night race. The woman alleged Stewart shoved and cursed at her outside his motor home. The case was taken to a Tennessee grand jury, but Stewart was not indicted.
He found out that he suffered from claustrophobia after he woke up under his sheets, freaked out and punched himself.
He struck and killed Sprint Car driver Kevin Ward, Jr. as Ward was walking away from his car after it had spun out from a collision with Stewart's car (August 9, 2014).

Why he might not be annoying:

He twice participated in 'Double Duty,' by racing in both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same day, and finishing in the top ten in each race (1999, 2001).
He is the first and only man to win the USAC Triple Crown, by winning the National Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown titles in the same year (1995).
His nicknames are 'Smoke' and 'The Rushville Rocket.'
People only hear about his charitable deeds from outside sources, since Stewart won't use them as a way to get good publicity.
He's brutally honest and outspoken, a throwback to what NASCAR was before sponsors turned drivers into corporate puppets.
    He rescues greyhounds.
