    (1797-November 26, 1883)
    Birth name was Isabella Baumfree
Leading thinker in the Underground Railroad movement
She was tall and muscular, and had a deep, manly voice.
    She never learned to read.
She claimed God spoke to her.
Some feminists objected to her because she was black, and some abolitionists objected to her because she was a woman.
She was born into slavery, and lived a life full of sorrow, brutality and exhausting work.
She was kept as a slave for 10 years after New York banned the institution, because the state didn't enforce the ban.
She eventually escaped from her master's farm.
She inspired and helped hundreds of slaves escape to a (somewhat) happier life.
    She was a phenomenal speaker.
She spoke Dutch as well as English.
She was the first African-American woman to win a lawsuit in the U.S.
She was ahead of her time on civil rights for minorities and women.
