U.S. Senator

The Resume

    (March 1, 1951- )
    Born in Lincoln, Nebraska
    Birth name was Debra Strobel
    Republican
Represented Nebraska's 43rd district in the state legislature (2005-13)
Emerged as a surprise 'dark horse' candidate during a three-way GOP primary, receiving late support from Sarah Palin, Joe and Pete Ricketts, The Tea Party, and Michelle Malkin
Defeated former Senator and Nebraska Governor Bob Kerrey in the general election; assumed office January 2013

Why she might be annoying:

She has a needling 'moan' of a voice, kind of like Gloria Steinem.
She has relied heavily on social 'wedge issues,' such as her Pro-Life stance, to get elected.
She was accused of hypocrisy on issues of limited government when it was revealed that she accepted federal subsidies for her family farm, near Valentine.
Her primary and general election opponents also pointed to accusations of unprincipled conduct over a 1995 adverse possession suit relative to her ranch's grazing rights.
She drew extreme heat by joining the 46 Senators who voted against 2013 Expanded Background Check legislation, in the aftermath of the 2012 Newtown Shootings.
She was an early supporter of Donald Trump until the release of the 'grab em by the pussy' videotapes, in early October 2016.
The revelation prompted her to rescind the endorsement, saying that it would be 'wise' for Trump to step down and allow Mike Pence to run in his place.
The negative blowback she received locally from the statement resulted in her sheepishly backtracking, conceding in a radio interview mere days later that she 'will be voting for Trump' and encouraging fellow Senator Ben Sasse to do the same.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her dad worked under Gov. Kay Orr as a state engineer/road director.
She left college to get married, but returned, in 1988, to successfully complete her Bachelors degree in education.
She became the third female U.S. Senator in Nebraska's history, and the first since 1954.
She was also the first woman to be elected to a full term in Nebraska, as her two predecessors attained office either by appointment or special election.
She was ignored in the early stages of the Nebraska Senate race, overshadowed by her two male opponents, who outspent her significantly (she came up with 40% of the vote).
Her upset victory was seen as a major victory for The Tea Party against the party establishment, following on the heels of Richard Murdoch's shocking primary victory ousting of incumbent Senator Dick Lugar in the same month.
She expressed support for an amendment limiting Senators to two terms.
She supported measures to prevent members of the House and Senate from becoming federally registered lobbyists.
She comes off as a more committed representative for her state's actual needs, as opposed to Ben Sasse, who has spent a majority of his time in office 'grandstanding' to increase his own public profile.
