There were two previous Grass Roots groups before the hitmaking installment took shape in 1967.
This group was given the choice of keeping their old band name, The 13th Floor, or going by a twice unsuccessful Grass Roots moniker.
Though Grill was the main lead singer, the voices of all three (Grill, Entner and Provisor) have been described as 'remarkably similar.'
Only Grill remains of this line-up which has not seen the Top 40 since 1972, yet drones on via the oldies circuit.

They incorporated elements of folk, rock, R&B and British beat into their music.
They were one of the first bands to utilize a brass section in pop music.
They have 29 charted singles, 13 gold singles, two gold albums, two platinum albums and sold over 20 million records.
Between 1967 and 1972 they were on the Billboard's singles charts 307 straight weeks.
Entner has gone on to guest on an L7 album and become a profitable heavy metal manager, signing acts like Primer 55 and Portable.
