Animal Expert
    (June 28, 1852-September 10, 1938)
    Born in United Kingdom
General manger of Spratt's, a manufacturer of dog biscuits
Founded the Crufts dog show (1891)
He got into dog shows as a way of selling more dog biscuits.
He claimed that he refused to own a dog to avoid accusations of favoring one breed over another, but he actually owned a St. Bernard (which, probably not coincidentally, was the breed he used in the logo for the Crufts dog show).
Crufts and other dog shows have been accused of promoting breed and judging standards that compromise the health of purebred dogs.
He made Spratt's the largest pet food manufacturer in Britain and Crufts the largest dog show in the world.
Crufts was the first dog show in which all breeds were allowed to compete.
His shows were popular with the royal family, with Queen Victoria, King Edward VII and King George V entering dogs.
