Why he might be annoying:

He brags about his election to the Senate as a great victory, even though Nebraska is an easy state for Republicans to win in.
He goes out of his way to portray himself as a hardcore conservative, even though his voting record places him as a more maverick conservative.
He proposed re-introducing a military draft, saying everyone should share some responsibility.
He opposes economic sanctions on countries that are guilty of human rights abuses.
He opposed the Federal Amendment proposal to ban gay marriage but voted for it anyway.
He was a CEO for a company that made voting machines that are allegedly easy to tamper with.

He named his children Ziller and Allyn. Ziller is also his wife's surname.
President Barack Obama nominated him for defense secretary, resulting in opposition from both parties due to comments he'd previously made about Israel (January 7, 2013).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a decorated Vietnam War veteran and self-made millionaire.
He served with his brother in Vietnam, saving him once after an attack.
He began working at age seven and helped raise his younger siblings after his father died.
He has been described as John McCain without the attitude.
He has a reputation as an articulate pragmatist and a pro-business, fiscal conservative.
He was re-elected in 2002 with 83 percent of the vote, the largest margin of victory in Nebraska history.
He breaks with Republicans on issues like the handling of the war in Iraq and medicare.
In regards to Iraq war criticism, he said: 'To question your government is not unpatriotic - to not question your government is unpatriotic.'
