Some called him 'General Betraeus' (betray us).
The troop surge in Iraq was based in part on his counter-insurgency 'Petraeus Doctrine.'
His critics referred to him as a 'Washington officer' due to his political connections.
He struggled to build an Iraqi army and police force, two duties which were assigned to him.
He resigned from the CIA after admitting to having an extra marital affair (November 9, 2012).

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated Princeton and the United States Military Academy (West Point).
He was involved in several peacekeeping missions.
He was confirmed unanimously by the Senate.
He is lauded for his creative, innovative and non-traditional military strategies.
George W. Bush passed much of the accountability for success/failure in Iraq onto his shoulders.
