His career flopped in the 1990's.
He is obsessed with Warner Brothers cartoons.
He bitched about how bad 'Space Jam' was, but his own Looney Tunes movie wasn't much better.
He looks like a Eugene Levy character.

Why he might not be annoying:

His films are full of inside jokes for movie buffs.
His combination of horror with comedy and satire has often been imitated.
Several of his films ('The Howling,' 'Gremlins,' 'The 'burbs') still have large fan followings.
He worked on the short-lived (but hilarious) TV series 'Police Squad!'
Steven Spielberg is a huge fan of his work.
