    Works include ‘Portrait of John F. Kennedy’(1967), ‘Adam and Eve and the C-97’ (1969), ‘Portrait of Andrew Wyeth’ (1969), ‘Portrait of Andy Warhol (1976), ‘Wicker’ (1979), ‘Night Vision’ (1984), ‘Screen Door to the Sea’ (1997) and ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ (2005-08)

Why he might be annoying:

    He taught himself anatomy by working at a morgue in Harlem on weekends, dissecting corpses.
    He has depicted himself with a pumpkin over his head in more than one self-portrait.
    When painting outside, he would enclose himself in a cardboard box to keep people from disturbing him.
    One interviewer described his sense of humor by noting, ‘Janie might put a taxidermy squirrel in the oven and then ask you to check the roast and watch how you react.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    He had his first solo exhibition at age twenty.
    He was one of the artists chosen by NASA for the ‘Eyewitness to Space’ program to document to Apollo moon missions.
    He designed a holiday stamp for the USPS depicting a partridge in a pear tree from ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas.’ (1971)
    He twice designed the official White House Christmas card (1981,1984).
    He said about one of the criticisms frequently levelled against him, ‘We’re charged, my father and I, with being a pack of illustrators. I’ve always taken it as a supreme compliment. What’s wrong with illustration?’
