    He was rushed into the Rangers lineup after high school, as the team's owner, Bob Short was desperate for cash and felt he could help draw fan interest.
    He sat out the 1976 and 1977 seasons as a result of injuries and surgeries.
    He posted a career record of 18 wins and 33 losses.
    He was married three times and divorced twice.
    He struggled with alcohol dependency following his retirement from baseball.
    His career ended prematurely at the age of 25, and as a result, he missed out on being eligible for his major league pension by 37 days.

    He posted an 18-0 record during his senior year of high school.
    He was credited with saving the Rangers franchise from a potential bankruptcy.
    Many of his teammates felt his career was prematurely derailed as a result of owner Bob Short's selfishness.

    He admitted in later years that he shouldn't have been rushed into the major leagues so young.
    He served as the vice-president for his father-in-law's lumber company in the years following his life after baseball.
