The Resume

    (August 1, 1943-April 6, 2017)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Birth name was David Rosario
Recorded the albums ‘Have a Marijuana’ (1968), ‘The American Revolution’ (1970), ‘The Pope Smokes Dope’ (1972), ‘Santa Claus Rooftop Junkie’ (1974), ‘Bring Back the Beatles’ (1977), ‘John Lennon for President’ (1980), ‘Anarchy in New York City’ (1993), ‘Legalize Marijuana’ (2002), ‘Marijuana Christmas’ (2008) and ‘Give Hemp a Chance’ (2015)

Why he might be annoying:

His stage name ‘Peel’ was inspired by the urban legend that you could get high by smoking dried banana peel scrapings.
He spent decades trying to cash in on his connection with John and Yoko, with his business cards in the 2010s featuring a picture of the three of them.
The FBI file on John Lennon included his picture instead of one of the ex-Beatle. Given that he and Lennon strongly resembled each other in the early ‘70s it might have been an understandable mistake except for one thing: the picture was the cover of one of Peel’s albums.

Why he might not be annoying:

John Lennon produced his album ‘The Pope Smokes Dope,’ got him a pair of appearances on ‘The David Frost Show’ (with Lennon backing him on a tea-chest bass), and namechecked him in the song ‘New York City.’
Lennon said, ‘We loved his music and his spirit and everything.’
He wrote the campaign theme song for Howard Stern’s short-lived run for governor of New York (1993).
