    Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
    Poet/short-story writer/novelist
    Best known works were the narrative poem 'John Brown's Body' and the short story 'The Devil and Daniel Webster'
    Won two Pulitzer Prizes for poetry (1929,1944)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was rejected by the army because of his poor eyesight.
    He briefly worked in advertising before returning to Yale for his master's degree.
    He suffered a nervous breakdown from overwork (1939).
    He followed 'The Devil and Daniel Webster' with the sequels 'Daniel Webster and the Sea Serpent' and 'Daniel Webster and the Ides of March.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    At age 17, he both enrolled at Yale and published his first poetry collection.
    His poetry was both popular and critically acclaimed, a rare combination.
    He worked for the Office of War Information during WWII.
    His short story 'The Sobbin' Women' inspired the movie musical 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' and his poem 'The Mountain Whippoorwill' inspred the Charlie Daniels Band song 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia.'
