Why they might be annoying:

Originally called Brian Poole and the Tremoloes, their iconic name was the result of a local newspaper’s misspelling.
They can’t seem to make up their mind as to whether West or Clarke was the original guitarist.
During a 1970 interview with the weekly Melody Maker newspaper, they were quoted as calling their earliest fans ‘silly suckers.’
They went through no fewer than five bassists.
If you see one of their live shows in the new millennium, looking a bit like Gene Simmons did in Family Jewels, check out their tight leather pants.

Why they might not be annoying:

They beat out the Beatles for a beat group audition at Decca (January 1, 1962).
They were heavily inspired by Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
There was no one lead vocalist; even the drummer had a turn.
They authored or co-authored a good chunk of their own material and covered songs by Paul Simon, the Beatles, Cat Stevens, Cole Porter, and Roy Orbison.
Ironically, their first single to chart stateside came right after Poole left.
Not too many groups can claim to be still going strong at least five decades later — especially with only one drummer.
A few of them fathered a new generation of hitmakers.
