Why he might be annoying:

Before he reached his teens, he was helping his bootlegger father hide the illegal booze before police raids.
At 12, he was arrested in front of his class, which he said made him feel 'like Dillinger.'
He had a hair-trigger temper.
He nearly killed another inmate by slashing him across the throat with a hockey stick during a recreation period.
After the publication of 'Go-Boy!' he became the poster boy for prison rehabilitation, which may have been a little premature considering his later arrests.
He abused cocaine to deal with the pressure of writing a follow-up to 'Go-Boy!'
At the time of his Zellers arrest, he was so high he was unsure whether he had robbed a store or a bank.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he got into trouble growing up, his stepbrothers would hold him down while his father whipped him.
He suffered permanent scarring on his buttocks from being beaten with paddles by prison guards.
He overcame illiteracy to become a successful author.
'Go-Boy!' won the presitgious Governor General's Award for non-fiction.
