Portrayed Molly Goldberg in 'The Goldbergs' on radio (1929-46) and TV (1949-56) and in 'Me and Molly' on Broadway (1949)
Also appeared on Broadway in 'A Majority of One' (1959) and 'Dear Me, The Sky Is Falling' (1963)
Wrote the autobiography 'Molly and Me' (1961)

Why she might be annoying:

She portrayed a stereotypical Jewish mother.
She cashed in on the character's popularity by publishing a 'Molly Goldberg Jewish Cookbook.'
Her return to TV in 'Mrs. G. Goes to College' was canceled after only one season (1961).

Why she might not be annoying:

She produced her show and wrote many of the scripts.
She defied the blacklist, refusing to fire actor Philip Loeb when he was accused of being a Communist.
When Loeb resigned to keep the show from being forced off the air (1951), she paid his salary for the next two years.
She won the interfaith award from B'nai Brith (1949) and a citation for distinguished merit from the National Conference of Christians and Jews (1950).
She wrote, 'I didn't set out to make a contribution to interracial understanding.... The reactions of the people who listened only showed that we all respond to human situations and human emotions -- and that dividing people into rigid racial, economic, social or religious groups is a lot of nonsense.'
