U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (April 7, 1949- )
    Born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania
Birth name is Mitchell Elias Daniels Jr.
Budget Director under President George W. Bush (2001-2003)
    Republican Governor of Indiana (2005-2013)
Author of 'Notes from the Road' (2004) and 'Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans' (2011)
President of Purdue University (2013- )

Why he might be annoying:

He divorced his wife and then remarried her three years later.
As the Budget Director under the Bush administration, his main function was appropriating assets to fund the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan (a position he vocally defended).
His tenure also saw a national surplus of over $200 billion devolve into a $400 deficit.
He was elected Indiana governor with the help of donations from the Koch brothers.
His second term saw protests from labor unions over his signing bills that abolished teacher bargaining rights and initiated private school voucher programs (the largest program of its kind to that point).
As governor, he appointed eight of the ten Purdue University board members and had reappointed the other two, all of whom then unanimously voted him to be university president (some critics saw this as a conflict of interest).
He had major ties to the pharmaceutical companies before his entry into politics (he was executive and president of Eli Lilly).
He opted out of a 2012 Presidential run for the Republican nomination, disapointing a legion of supporters who thought he had the best chance of defeating President Obama (yeah, really....)

Why he might not be annoying:

    His is diminutive and good-humored.
He received his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
He worked as a liason to President Reagan in the late 1980s.
He worked as an assistant to Senator Dick Lugar after college, eventually working his way up to chief of staff.
President Bush nicknamed him 'the Blade' for his acumen at budget cutting.
His main reasoning for ruling out a Presidential bid was familial, as his wife was wary of the loss of privacy that would result.
He has been critical of Republicans who campaign only on social issues, saying: 'We still need [to reach] people who never tune in to Rush or Glenn or Laura or Sean.'
