    Federal troops had to be sent here to desegregate Central High School (September 24, 1957).
    The next year, the Little Rock school board shut down the city's three high schools rather than integrate.
    FedEx was founded here but moved to Memphis when Little Rock National Airport officials would not provide facilities for the growing company.
    Most of the rock that inspired the city's name was dynamited away during the construction of a railroad bridge.
    It was ranked as having the second-most diverse economy by Moody's Investor Services.
    It is the site of the Big Dam Bridge, the longest pedestrian-only bridge in the US.
    It is the site of the Clinton Presidential Center and MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History.
    It is mentioned in the first verse of 'We're an American Band.'
