The Resume

    (November 25, 1950- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Comic book author and sci-fi/fantasy novelist
    Wrote for ‘The X-Men’ (1975-91)
Inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame (2015)
Wrote the novels ‘First Flight’ (1987), ‘Grounded’ (1991) and ‘Sundowner’ (1994)
Co-wrote the ‘Chronicles of the Shadow War’ trilogy with George Lucas (1995-99)
Cameo appearances in the films ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ (2006) and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ (2014)

Why he might be annoying:

In an odd crossover, for an issue of ‘Marvel Team Up’ he put Spiderman together with the cast of Saturday Night Live (1978).
He had a reputation for taking a long time to resolve plot threads, with ‘X-Men’ editor Louise Simonson noting that whenever Claremont had trouble coming up with story ideas, ‘All I'd have to do was go through all of the plot threads that he had left for the last year or two.’
He does not seem to entirely trust his artists, with the result that his characters tend to constantly self-narrate to ensure that there’s no risk of the reader misinterpreting what’s happening.
’Slate’ described him as ‘the soapiest writer in comic books,’ adding ‘The classic Claremont pose is either a character, head hung in shame with two enormous rivers of tears running down the cheeks as he or she delivers a self-loathing monologue, or a character with head thrown back and mouth open in a shout of rage, shaking tiny fists at heaven and vowing that the whole world will soon learn about his or her feelings.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He played a key role in changing the X-Men from one of Marvel’s minor titles into a pop culture juggernaut.
He was noted for adding a number of strong female characters to the X-Men.
He emphasized the X-Men’s individual personalities and motives, with his approach likened to ‘writing the Great American Novel about complex characters who just happen to fly,’
’Slate’ wrote, ‘The genius of Chris Claremont was that he made mutants a generic stand-in for all minorities.’
His frequent collaborator, artist Jim Byrne, said, ‘Chris is the only writer I've ever worked with that managed to make me cry reading a page I had drawn.
