    Best known as co-creator of 'Howard the Duck'
    Also wrote for 'Man-Thing,' 'Omega the Unknown,' 'The Defenders,' 'Tales of the Zombie,' 'Foolkiller,' and 'Hard Time'
    He was known for dropping lengthy text pages into the middle of his comics.
    He wrote the Marvel 'Super Special' featuring Kiss.
    Disney threatened to sue Marvel Comics for copyright infringement until Gerber added pants to Howard to distinguish him from Donald Duck.
    His confrontational personality led to repeated clashes with editors, prompting his departure from Marvel (1979).
    He initially claimed to like the script for the flop 'Howard the Duck' movie (1986), but later admitted, 'To put it bluntly, I lied.'
    He started a comic fanzine at age 13.
    He injected social satire and absurdist humor into comic book adventures.
    He shared a Daytime Emmy for Animated Program for 'The New Batman/Superman Adventures' (1998).
    He died from complications from pulmonary fibrosis while trying to get on the waiting list for a lung transplant.
