Why they might be annoying:

They originally called themselves Junior and Dude, but a radio director at WNOX in Knoxville forgot their names and rechristened them Homer and Jethro.
They were called ‘the thinking man’s hillbillies.’
They appeared in a series of commercials for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes with the tagline, ‘Ooh! That’s corny!’
After Haynes died, Burns tried to keep the act going with a new ‘Homer,’ guitarist Ken Eidson, but gave it up within a year.

Why they might not be annoying:

They both served in the Army during World War II – Burns in Europe, Haynes in the Pacific in the medical corps.
They won a Grammy for Best Comedy Recording (Musical) for ‘The Battle of Kookamonga,’ their parody of Johnny Horton’s ‘The Battle of New Orleans.’
They were actually virtuoso musicians, influenced by the playing of Django Reinhardt, as demonstrated on their ‘Playing It Straight’ album.
Haynes owned Fender Stratocaster serial number 0001.
