    Short story collections include; 'Masters of Time' (1950), 'The Far Out Worlds of Van Vogt' (1973), 'Pendulum' (1978), 'The Sea Things and Other Stories' (1970), and 'Transgalatic' (2006)
    His last name is hard to pronounce.
    He converted several of his short stories into novels, referring to them as fix-ups.
    He wrote a handbook on hypnotism.
    He started out writing for romance magazines like 'True Story.'
    He wrote an autobiography over twenty years before his death.
    The 'A. E.' stood for Alfred Elton.
    The critics absolutely hated him.
    He was dashingly handsome and an excellent dresser. Neither of which science fiction writers are known for.
    He wrote almost forty novels and over 150 short stories.
    Harlan Ellison and Philip K. Dick are fans of his.
    He successfully took Ridley Scott to court to force him to admit that 'Alien' was based on his short story 'The Black Destroyer.'
    Unlike most science fiction writers, he has actually had some of his stuff filmed.
    He and his wife were married for over 35 years until her death.
