    (circa 3000 BC-3000 BC)
    (Circa 3000 B.C.)
Founder and first pharaoh of Egypt
Also known as ‘Meni' and ‘Min'
He may have overthrown the original rulers of the area that became Egypt.
    He invaded Nubia.
According to legend, he was killed by a hippopotamus.
Several sacrificed young men were found in what some scholars believe is his tomb.
Many Egyptologists doubt he existed and identify him as Narmer who ruled before him or Aha who came after.
He united Upper and Lower Egypt to form one of the ancient world's greatest kingdoms.
He dammed part of the Nile to found the strategically located capital Memphis.
He established diplomatic and commercial ties with Phoenicia.
Greek historian Diodorus credits him for creating Egypt's laws and religious cults.
Roman author Pliny claims (rather extravagantly) he invented writing.
The nation he founded and its pharaonic government lasted for 3000 years.
