Formed in London by band member Mike Corby and manager Adrian Millar
    1977 line-up:
    Mike Corby - guitar, keyboards
    John Waite - vocals, bass
    Wally Stocker - guitar
    Tony Brock - drums
Recorded 'Isn't It Time,' 'Everytime I Think of You,' 'Back on My Feet Again' and 'Midnight Rendezvous'
Other names considered were the Cry Babys and the Big Babys.
Settling for the Babys to try and capture a fair teen audience share, Corby, Waite and Millar all claim to be the originator of the title.
During an argument Waite cut Corby on the face with a broken beer bottle.
Inner tensions resulted in the firing of Corby and Millar in 1978, the two men who formed the group.
They never caught on in their home country as the U.K. was embracing the punk movement of the time.
Band members felt their record label put them on the back burner and promoted its girl rockers - Pat Benatar and Blondie with Deborah Harry.
The odd pluralization of their name was not of their doing but a printer's mistake, but they liked the way it looked and it stuck.
They had three female back-up singers called the Babettes.
Two of their songs reached the Top 20 on the charts in the U.S. and 'Isn't It Time' hit #1 in Australia.
After the group's demise Waite found solo success and with replacement Babys Ricky Phillips and Jonathan Cain formed Bad English.
Stocker went on to play for Rod Stewart and Air Supply.
Brock drummed for Stewart and produced songs for Keith Urban.
