Why she might be annoying:

Her voice was better remembered for its volume than its beauty.
It was often been described as 'laserlike.'
When filing her taxes, she listed the manager of the Metropolitan Opera as a dependent.
When someone entered her dressing room by mistake and cried, 'Oh my god!,' she replied: 'Yes, but you may call me Birgit.'
Her death was not announced to the public until after her funeral (about three weeks after her death - January 11, 2006).

She became a huge star for her powerful voice and intense acting.
She grew up on a farm.
She had a witty sense of humor.
She was extremely professional and well-liked by her colleagues.
During a performance, a tenor once bit her ear because she had held a high note longer than he did.
