U.S. Congressman
    (March 22, 1914-June 24, 1983)
    Born in Lockport, New York
US Representative from New York (1951-65)
Chair of the Republican National Committee (1961-64)
Running mate of Barry Goldwater (1964)
During 14 years in Congress, he never had a major bill named after him.
His obscurity before being picked by Goldwater inspired the couplet, 'Here's a riddle, it's a killer/Who the hell is William Miller?'
Goldwater said, 'One of the reasons I chose Miller is that he drives Johnson nuts.'
Although he was a conservative, his daughter Stephanie became a liberal commentator.
In college, he was nicknamed 'Dap' (short for 'Dapper') for his always meticulous dress.
He served in the US Army during World War II and later was an assistant prosecutor at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trial.
He appeared in the first American Express 'Do you know me?' commercial (1975).
