Why he might be annoying:

    When he had a West Kingston slum demolished and redeveloped as the Tivoli Gardens housing project, he filled the new houses with his political supporters.
    His rivalry with Michael Manley often turned bloody, with over 800 deaths from political-related violence in the 1980 election year.
    He was a workaholic who had trouble delegating tasks.
    He lost a reelection bid in 1989 due to popular discontent over his government’s poor response to the damage inflicted by Hurricane Gilbert the previous year.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Before entering politics, he founded a record label and released some of the first recordings of Jamaican ska.
    He was the longest serving Member of Parliament in Jamaica, winning ten consecutive elections to represent West Kingston and holding his seat for 43 years (1962-2005).
    As Jamaica’s Minster of Finance, he established the first Jamaican-owned bank (1967) and the Jamaican stock exchange (1968).
