Why he might be annoying:

He was a member, and then, for a brief period of time, the head of the John Birch Society.
Although he was a Democrat, he was more conservative than almost all Republicans.
He was one of only two representatives to vote against extending both the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (1975) in 1978. These both helped the disabled.
He was one of the most anti-gay legislators.
He voted against extending the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (1975, 1981).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a doctor before running for congress.
He was related to General George Patton.
He gained a reputation as the most anti-Communist legislator in Congress.
He was against big government.
He voted to extend the Civil Rights Commission (1983).
He was on board KAL 007 when it was shot down by the Soviets, allegedly killing everyone inside (September 1, 1983).
Some believe the flight was shot down by the Soviets just to kill McDonald.
Some also believe some passengers may have survived the crash and were taken prisoner, which could have included McDonald.
