Why she might be annoying:

Although a designer, Mr. Blackwell ranked her #3 worst dressed of 1970.
    She is a junior.
At seventeen she married a 44 year old aristocrat.
She married exactly one day after her first divorce.
At 23, she married 63 year old conductor Leopold Stokowski.
She was divorced three times and widowed in her fourth marriage.
During the 1950's, she started seeing a psychiatrist to help with her stutter and dizzy spells.
Her advertising slogan was 'Don't My Jeans Look Great.'
Although she had a good body, her face left much to be desired.
Other than her newsworthy tragic childhood, her success did not come until she was in her fifties.
She was responsible for the tax fraud committed by her psychiatrist and lawyer and owed millions.
Because of the tax burden, she sold her place in the South Hamptons and New York City and in her seventies moved into her son's (Anderson Cooper) apartment.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she was born, her parents left her with her grandmother, so they could go on a European vacation.
Her dad, an alcoholic, died when she was just 15 months old.
In 1925, at one year old, she inherited a four million dollar trust (that is $4,000,000 in 1925) on the death of her father.
Her father had already wasted fifteen million dollars and left nothing to his other daughter.
Her mom took an annual $48,000 income (remember this is the 1920's) for managing her daughter's trust fund.
Her mother used the money to stay in France, while Floria was left with her nanny.
Because she was heir to $4,000,000, a custody trial in 1934 was held to discredit her mother as unfit.
Testimony claimed her mom to be a lesbian, who mostly abandons Gloria and wastes money by bathing in champagne.
Her mom indeed lost custody and eventually Gloria was placed with her aunt.
The first thing her Aunt Gertrude did when she took custody was fire her nanny, Dodo. Gloria loved her nanny and became hysterical.
When she became of age and inherited her money, she located her former nanny and gave her a lifetime income.
After the Lindbergh baby was kidnapped, threats were received that she would also be kidnapped.
As a child, she was known for being well mannered.
She witnessed her son Carter Vanderbilt Cooper leap to his death at 23. Originally it was ruled a suicide and later thought by some to be a reaction to his asthma medication.
She aligned with Murjani and allowed them to use her name for blouses and jeans (1979).
Designer jeans became very popular during the very end of the 1970's. The most popular being Jordache, Sassoon and Gloria Vanderbilt.
She was selected by People Magazine as one of the most intriguing on 1979.
She said the best thing is 'to laugh with someone because you both think the same things are funny.'
'The fame you earn has a different taste,' she said 'from the fame that is forced upon you.'
She made several attempts to reconcile with her mom and just prior to her mother's death, they were pretty close.
She was a successful oil painter.
Her psychiatrist and lawyer bilked her out of nearly $2 million in phony tax shelters.
