Why they might be annoying:

They are a one hit wonder.
The group was put together strictly as a novelty act to cash in on an emerging 'fad' called rap.
None of them wrote the song. It was written by Grandmaster Caz from the Cold Crush Brothers.
Big Bank Hank asked for permission to record it, got it, and Caz never received credit or compensation for the contribution.
The song also started the trend known as 'sampling,' borrowing from Chic's 'Good Times.'
In 1999 they recorded 'Jump On It,' a rap record for children.
They still play limited old school engagements though they are primarily known just for 'Delight.'

Why they might not be annoying:

They were founded by singer/producer Sylvia Robinson, who had a 1973 hit with 'Pillow Talk' and was part of the duo Mickey & Sylvia.
'Rapper's Delight' was the first rap/hip-hop record to ever make it into the Top 40 and reach platinum status.
It has sold more than 8 million units.
Artists who consider themselves followers of theirs include Run DMC, The Beastie Boys and Luscious Jackson.
Their song was hilariously featured in the 1998 Adam Sandler movie 'The Wedding Singer.'
