Although he came from a show biz family, he decided to study law -- 'I thought it was about time someone in my family did something sensible' -- then became an actor anyway.
In some of his early credits, his name is misspelled 'Schaughnessy.'
He did the voice-over for commercials for Land Rover.
He had a telephone installed in his bathroom ('very useful when I've been on the loo').
