    (November 29, 1947-March 3, 2012)
    Born in Denver, Colorado
Member of the bands Sawbuck (1969-70), the Edgar Winter Group (1972), Montrose (1972-76,1987), Gamma (1979-83,2000) and Rail (1985)
Recorded the solo albums 'Open Fire' (1978), 'Territory' (1986), 'The Speed of Sound' (1988), 'The Diva Station' (1990), 'Mutatis Mutandis' (1991), 'Music from Here' (1994), 'Mr. Bones' (1996), 'Roll Over and Play Live' (1999) and 'Bearings' (1999)
He ran away from home at 16 and spent time in reform schools and juvenile jails for 'the usual stuff: burglary, car theft and bad-check cashing.'
He was rumored to have been offered a chance to become lead guitarist of Mott the Hoople when he left Edgar Winter's band, but he later said that never happened.
He is better remembered for giving Sammy Hagar his big break than for his own music.
He said about Hagar, 'I fired him from the Montrose band for the same reasons that I left the Edgar Winter Group.'
'Guitar Player' wrote, 'If you had a gang of friends who were crazy into guitars in 1973, you could be absolutely certain of one thing: that every single one of them was playing the grooves out of the first Montrose album.'
He apparently buried the hatchet with Hagar, as he and the other original members of Montrose were special guests at several of Hagar's concerts (2004-05).
During his last tour, at the end of the concert he would sign a guitar and auction it off, with the proceeds going to a local charity (2011).
