    Guitarist and counterterrorism expert
Member of Steely Dan (1972-74) and the Doobie Brothers (1974-78)

Why he might be annoying:

He refused to explain the origin of the ‘Skunk’ nickname.
He first recorded with a psychedelic band called Ultimate Spinach (1968).
He was not included when Steely Dan were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He considered running as a Republican for Congress representing California’s 24th District, but decided the district was so heavily Democratic that he did not have a chance (2000).

Why he might not be annoying:

As a session guitarist, he played on records by Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Sheryl Crow, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand, Bryan Adams, the Beach Boys, and Rick Nelson.
’Guitar Player’ called him ‘one of the greatest guitars for hire in the business.’
His interest in recording technology led him to studying military hardware and weapons systems.
He wrote a five-page paper about converting the ship-based Aegis anti-aircraft missile into a missile defense system and submitted it to his Congressional Representative, Dana Rohrabacher, which started his second career as a defense consultant.
One of his former bosses, Lt. Gen. Henry A. Obering, said his greatest strength is ‘out-of-the-box thinking. He comes at problems and he comes at challenges that we may face with a very different perspective.’
