    World record holder in the 200 metre breaststroke (long course) (July 11, 2004-June 8, 2008)
    He was overshadowed by Michael Phelps.
    He enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.
    He has tattoos of the Olympic rings and the Longhorn.
    At the 2004 Summer Olympics, he was beaten by Japan's Kosuke Kitajima in a controversial 100 meter breaststroke competition as Kosuke used an undetected dolphin kick.
    The gold medal he won in 4x100 meter medley at the 2008 Olympics went missing during his flight back home to Austin, Texas (September 15, 2008).
    He had an outstanding college career, as he was undefeated in the breaststroke races.
    He established his own style of the breaststroke.
    He enjoys photography and camping.
    He has done charity work involving the Leukemia Research Foundation.
    He had a significant rivalry with Kosuke Kitajima.
    His 2008 Olympic gold medal was recovered and returned to him a day after it went missing (September 16, 2008).
