Why he might be annoying:

    He was famous for wearing a bow tie.
    He dropped out of the race for President of the United States in April of 1988 when he won only his home state's primary.
    He spent the day of the Democratic primary planting a tree.
    Although he remained in politics after dropping out of the race for the U.S. Presidency, he disappeared from the public eye.
    He was one of the biggest voices against violence on television, claiming that it caused violence in America.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He started out as a newspaper editor and publisher, which eventually led to a chain of 14 weekly papers.
    He served in the Army for 14 years.
    After dropping out of the race for President of the United States, he said: 'I leave the field of active campaigning with no regrets for having made the race because it has been an exhilarating experience to get to know our nation better.'
    He wrote a book about his campaign, which he titled, 'Winners and Losers.'
    After announcing that he would not seek a third term in the U.S. Senate, he said: 'I have an obligation to the people of Illinois, to the Senate and to myself to leave the Senate while I am still eager to serve, not after I tire of serving.'
    While in the Senate, he did a lot of work for the federal student loan program to enable students and their families to borrow money directly from the government.
    After retiring from Congress in 1997, he formed the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University and remained its director.
    He passed away after undergoing heart surgery.
