U.S. Congressman
    (January 27, 1938-October 2, 2006)
    Born in Topeka, Kansas
    Birth name was Helen Palmer
US Representative from Idaho (1995-January 2001)
Died when the car she was riding in overturned
She said Yellowstone National Park should be opened to hunters.
She said 'The only endangered species is the white Christian landowning male.'
She took new-world-order/UN-black-helicopter conspiracy theories seriously.
After the Oklahoma City bombing, she scolded Congress for not trying to understand anti-government activists.
After she urged President Clinton to resign over his adultery, she admitted that she had had an affair with a married man.
At the time of her death, she was breaking the law by not wearing a seatbelt and by holding her grandson in her lap rather than placing him in a child safety seat.
Before going into politics, she ran a physician recruitment firm that found doctors for under served communities.
She pledged to serve only three terms, and unlike many Representatives, she honored her promise.
When she was selected for a hand search at the Boise Airport, she demanded to see a copy of the regulation allowing Homeland Security to search her without cause. When the request was denied, she made the 300-mile trip by rental car instead (2003).
Afterward, she said, 'Our borders are wide open and yet they're shaking down a 66-year-old grandmother they greeted by name.'
Her grandson suffered only minor injuries.
