Appeared on Broadway in 'The Garrick Gaeties' (1925), 'Merry Go Round' (1927), 'Rainbow' (1928), 'The Little Show' (1929), 'Three's A Crowd' (1930) and 'Revenge with Music' (1934)
Performed in the one-woman show 'Blues, Ballads and Sin Songs' (1950)

Why she might be annoying:

She was indicted for murder following the shooting death of her first husband, tobacco heir Zachary Smith Reynolds (July 6, 1932).
The charges were dropped amid rumors that the Reynolds family had used its influence.
She dated actor Philip Holmes, then left him to marry his younger brother Ralph (1939).
While Ralph Holmes was in England during World War II, she reportedly had affairs with author Jane Bowles and blues singer Josh White.
She convinced Montgomery Clift to turn down the lead in 'Sunset Blvd' (1950), largely because the May-December relationship between Joe Gillis and Norma Desmond mirrored their real-life relationship too closely.
She committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

She popularized the strapless evening gown.
Her son Christopher Reynolds died at age 18 in a mountain climbing accident (1950).
She founded the Christopher Reynolds Foundation which provided financial support for the civil rights movement.
Coretta Scott King attended her funeral.
