Established the 'Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace' in southern China
At its height, the Heavenly Kingdom ruled over 30 million people
Died either by suicide as Imperial forces closed in or from food poisoning
Why he might be annoying
He suffered a nervous breakdown after failing the civil service exam for the fifth time.
While recovering, he read some missionary tracts and decided that the visions he had experienced meant that he was Christ's younger brother.
He ordered strict separation of the sexes -- even between married couples -- for his followers while keeping a harem of concubines.
The Taiping Rebellion became the bloodiest civil war in history, with over 20 million deaths.
He was admired by Mao Zedong.
Why he might not be annoying
Declaring that you are Jesus' brother is somewhat less egotistical than declaring that you are Jesus himself.
The Taiping Rebellion started when Imperial forces attacked his followers.
His army was known for its high levels of discipline.
His Heavenly Kingdom popularized the game of mahjong.
