Born in East Harlem, New York
    Psychiatrist and sociologist
Known for his research on the effects of racism on the black community
Author of the books ‘Why Blacks Kill Blacks’ (1972), ‘Raising Black Children’ (1975), ‘Lay My Burden Down: Suicide and the mental health crisis among African-Americans’ (with Amy Alexander, 2000), and ‘Come On, People: On the path from victims to victors’ (with Bill Cosby, 2007)

Why he might be annoying:

His first book’s title sounds an awful lot like the ‘what about black on black crime’ cope argument (which is actually a misrepresentation of its central argument).
He ran Jesse Jackson’s failed Presidential campaign.
He spent years publicly joined at the hip with Bill Cosby (and offering tacit defense for things such as Cosby’s infamous ‘pound cake speech’ about crime in the black community).

Why he might not be annoying:

His parents were immigrants from Haiti.
He served as dean of students at Harvard Medical School.
He was active in the Civil Rights movement, and it influenced his writings.
He conducted a study on the psychology of white female civil rights activists of the 1960’s.
As a technical advisor for the Cosby Show, he pushed for its showrunners to strive for authenticity in depicting black families and avoid stereotypes.
He founded the Media Center of the Judge Baker's Children's Center in 1994.
His work was ahead of its time in tackling intersectionality and the complex psychology surrounding race relations in America.
