Why he might be annoying:

He and the other core members of Disney's animation team were nicknamed the 'Nine Old Men' while in their 20s.
He was very intense and had to be hospitalized for stress after 'Snow White' and 'Sleeping Beauty.'
He complained that Disney's 90s successes, such as 'The Lion King,' emphasized action at the expense of characterization.

He was married to Jeanette Thomas for 58 years until his death.
Animation historian John Canemaker said, 'Thomas is particularly known and admired for his ability to animate emotionally sensitive material.'
He was supportive of computer animation, saying 'I wish I was young enough to really try it.'
Brad Bird paid tribute to him and Ollie Johnston by including characters based on them in 'The Iron Giant' and 'The Incredibles.'
Chuck Jones called him 'the Laurence Olivier of animators.'
