    (June 19, 1925-December 23, 2006)
Born in Elephant and Castle, Southwark, South London, United Kingdom
Birth name is Charles Edward Springall
Died of a stroke at age 81 in Brinsworth House, Twickenham, Middlesex
Singles include ‘My Boomerang Won’t Come Back,’ ‘Tanglefoot’ and ‘Only a Working Man’
Television credits include ‘The Centre Show,’ ‘The Charlie Drake Show’ and ‘The Worker’
Three words: ‘Hello, my darlings.’ (He was referring to the tatas, not the women.)
He took the maiden name of his mother.
He spent money almost as fast as he made it.
His skull was fractured in a sketch involving a bookcase, leaving him unconscious for three days. He would not return to the screen for two years.
The bookcase was repaired by a laborer who clearly had no idea it was supposed to be part of the sketch.
His most famous song unwittingly made a mockery of Aboriginals.
He couldn’t translate his small screen success to the big screen.
He was the son of a London newspaper vendor.
His signature character was the aggrieved everyman.
He took extreme pride in the details of his scripts, many of which he himself had written.
He made a successful transition from silly slapstick to straight drama (Touchstone in Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Smallweed in Dickens’ Bleak House), even playing heavies.
His most famous song featured the Popeye laugh.
