Religious Figure
    (1505-December 31, 1588)
    Born in Granada, Spain
    Spanish Catholic priest
    Member of the Dominican order
Most well known for his preaching/oratory and his books
Books include; 'The SInner's Guide,' 'The Book of Prayer and Meditation' and 'Memorial of the Christian Life'
Also wrote on Church history, ethics and Scripture
He didn't start writing until he was thirty-five.
He turned down appointments to the bishopric twice and to the cardinalate once.
Next to 'The Sinner's Guide' his most popular work was 'Summa of the Christian Life' a collection of his writings on various subjects that wasn't put together until the twentieth century, over four hundred years after his death!
'The Catholic Encyclopedia' says, 'Among the hundreds of eminent ascetical writers of Spain, Louis of Granada remains unsurpassed in the beauty and purity of his style, the solidity of his doctrine, and the popularity of his writings.'
He was born to a poor family.
He gave all the money he made from his writings to the poor and maintained an ascetical lifestyle for himself.
'The Sinner's Guide' was an immediate best seller and was translated into Latin, Italian, French, German, Polish and Greek in an incredibly short period for the time.
