The Resume

    (February 1, 1979-November 25, 2006)
    Born in Jitonhueca, Sonora, Mexico
Birth name was Valentin Elizalde Valencia
Recorded ‘Vete Ya,’ ‘Ebrio de Amor,’ ‘Vete Con El,’ ‘Vuelve Carinito,’ ‘Como Me Duele,’ ‘Vencedor,’ ‘Mi Virgencita,’ and ‘Soy Así’
Known as ‘El Gallo de Oro’ (The Golden Rooster)
Murdered in an ambush after leaving a concert in Reynosa

Why he might be annoying:

Some of his songs eulogized Mexican drug lords.
He had three daughters from separate women.
His death has inordinately overshadowed his own discography.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He has four posthumous albums.
His father was killed in a car accident in a notorious part of Sonora.
He was killed when gang members (allegedly with ties to the Gulf Cartel) gunned his vehicle down. His chauffeur and assistant died with him in the attack.
It is widely believed that a hit was put on him after he performed a song containing lyrics antagonizing the drug trafficking gang Los Zetas (he was warned not to perform at the Reynosa venue but insisted on going through with it).
He was nominated posthumously for a Grammy Award in 2007.
His ex-partner and the mother of his second child was murdered in 2016.
