World Leader
    (March 4, 1904-December 20, 1973)
    Born in Santoña, Cantabria, Spain
1st Duke of Carrero-Blanco Grandee of Spain
Spanish admiral and long-time ally of dictator Francisco Franco
President of the Government (Prime Minister) of Spain (June 9, 1973-December 20, 1973)
Assassinated via the bombing of his car by Basque members of ETA in Madrid at age 69
He was a religious fanatic of Roman Catholicism and the Opus Dei.
When the Spanish Civil War began in 1936, he fled the country, and became a refugee in the embassies of Mexico and France before sneaking back into Spain.
He was a puppet of Francisco Franco's dictatorship and groomed to become his successor.
He was accused of ordering the execution of five political opponents in the Franco regime, and creating a 'State within the State...a network of informers within the Ministries, in the Army, in the Falange, and also in Opus Dei.'
The successful plot to assassinate him was titled 'Operation Ogre.'
Unlike a majority of the Falangists, he was opposed to joining the Axis power and the involvement of Spain in World War II.
    He was a serious anti-Communist.
After serving just six months as Prime Minister of Spain, he was blown up in his car (along with a bodyguard and driver) by 100 kilograms of explosives buried in a tunnel underneath the street he took after attending Mass.
The explosion was so huge it created a massive crater in the street, and blew the car over the five story Jesuit monastery where he attended Mass, landing on a second floor balcony on the other side of the building.
His assassins were never brought to trial, though one murderer himself was assassinated by a car bomb in 1978.
