The Resume

    (February 20, 1950-September 3, 2017)
    Born in Queens, New York
    Guitarist, bassist
    Co-Founder of Steely Dan
Released solo albums '11 Tracks of Whack' (1994) and 'Circus Money' (2008)

Why he might be annoying:

He gave the shortest speech on record at his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
He dropped out of Bard College to pursue a music career with ex-classmate Donald Fagen.
One interviewer described his facial hair during Steely Dan’s 70s heyday as ‘rough sketches for beards that never quite made it into development.’
The duo's relations were strained by a wrongful death lawsuit engendered by the mother of his late girlfriend, Karen Stanley, who died from a drug overdose (1978).
He tried to lay low and recuperate by retreating to Maui, where he would develop a drug addiction.
The drug abuse carried over into his music, causing years-long delays in the recording of their album 'Gaucho' (they would break up only a year after its release).

Why he might not be annoying:

Judd Apatow and Julian Lennon were huge fans.
He was raised by his father and grandmother.
He pioneered the development of a sound that mixed R&B, Rock, Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Pop and Progressive styles.
He received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music.
His song, 'Little Kawai,' was written as a tribute to his son of the same name, for his 1994 album.
He sustained serious injuries after getting hit by a New York taxi cab (1980).
He co-produced and played bass for Krishna Das' 2005 album 'All One.'
He won three Grammy Awards for 'Two Against Nature' in 2001 (previously never having won one).
Donald Fagen publicly commented on his partner's death, saying: 'He was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny.'
