Why he might be annoying:

He was married three times, divorced twice.
His trademark was his Kaiser Wilhelm handlebar-mustache turned upside-down.
He briefly joined the Weiss Brothers Studio in the mid-1960s - teaming with Marvin Loback as their answer to Laurel and Hardy.
He struck out on his own in an attempt to break out of his 'supporting player' status, but the move never paid off.
His production company folded within three years, following the Stock Market Crash of 1929.
From the 1930s onward, he succeeded only in attaining uncredited, non-speaking walk-on roles in 'talking pictures.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He performed with Pollard's Lilliputian Opera Company when he was a child (taking his stage name from the troupe).
He got his Hollywood start in Keystone Kops shorts.
Several clips from his 'It's a Gift' film would be used in a traffic safety short for Sesame Street (including the famous scene of his putting a car into motion with a magnet).
At his peak, he was on the same level as Harry Langdon and Charlie Chaplin.
He enjoyed a brief comeback in the mid-1940s, playing 'Pee Wee,' the sidekick to Tex Ritter in several low-budget Westerns.
He had a cameo in 'Singin' in the Rain,' at the end of the film's famous dancing sequence (walking away from the police officer, Gene Kelly hands him his umbrella and them merrily walks away).
