His name.
The Band refused to give themselves a name, and adopted the name that people called them when they were playing with Bob Dylan.
He was a heavy user of drugs and alcohol.
While with The Band he ignored his Native roots, concentrating instead on the Arkansas heritage of Levon Helm.
He broke up The Band due to exhaustion.
His solo works tend to be somewhat mystical.
He is described as cerebral and private.
He claims Canadians have a deeper appreciation of good music than Americans.
He dated actress Charlotte Ayanna, who is over 30 years younger than him.

He learned guitar as a child while visiting family on the Six Nation reserve.
