Freed with 14 other hostages by Colombian security forces (July 2, 2008)

Why she might be annoying:

She spent most of her life abroad before deciding to enter Colombian politics.
During her first campaign, she distributed condoms, saying she would be like a condom against corruption.
She was kidnapped while campaigning in an area with high guerrilla activity despite warnings from the police and military.
After her rescue, Swiss radio claimed that her release was actually the result of $20 million being paid to a FARC guerrilla.

Why she might not be annoying:

She had to send her two children to live with her ex-husband in New Zealand due to death threats.
While she was held hostage, crowds at French sporting events were asked to applaud for five minutes to show their support.
After her rescue, she thanked Colombian President Uribe, whom she had been running against when she was kidnapped.
